She has served on numerous juries including the Rome Prize jury and the Heinz Awards. Mikyoung currently serves on the Mayor's appointed Civic Design Commission in Boston. She has taught at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and is a Professor Emerita at the Rhode Island School of Design where she was awarded the college's Dean's Leadership Award. Mikyoung was trained as a concert pianist at Oberlin College and Conservatory, studied Landscape Architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and public art at MIT.

Jess received her bachelor’s degree in interactive marketing from the Fashion Institute of Technology and her master’s in landscape architecture from the University of Washington. The plaza design focuses on providing Mission Park with a landscape that draws its spirit from the regional gardens of New England. The paved areas within the garden are carved out of the grove to allow for direct access to major entry points and public transportation.

That’s really rewarding for me, to know people who weren’t part of the day-to-day process of design “get it,” engage in it, and appreciate it. Over the past decade with the black lives matter movement I have become more focused on ways in which inclusion can be defined through design with neurodiversity in mind. To expand and go deeper – beyond the color of our skin or our gender to find ways that we can understand how our brains respond to the designed world and how we can expand the spectrum of consideration as we design in public parks, plazas, and playgrounds. Kevin leads the studio's accounts while developing overall budgeting and financial planning and reporting. He has over 17 years of accounting experience in architectural firms in the Boston area. Trained as an Architect and Landscape Architect, Alek has a great interest and appreciation for a wide variety of design styles of the built landscape, with a particular interest in landscape’s connection to history.

Mikyoung Kim is the recipient of the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award, the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Medal of Excellence and her studio won the 2022 ASLA Firm Award. Her work is celebrated in the Smithsonian's "American Voices Collection" and by visitors to her sites around the world. An Olmsted Scholar, Mikyoung's influence extends through lectures, teaching and accolades, as a visionary in inclusive, sensitive landscape architecture and environmental art. She was trained as both an architect and landscape architect, gaining experience at several design firms across both disciplines.

Our work is really important to these folks, and we explore all of the ways in which we can help them escape the sounds and tenor of the clinical environment to see the sky. I admire the mom who breastfeeds her young child at the Crown Sky Garden while her elder child is in surgery. I admire people who overcome immense adversity and show us their generosity and ability to help make the world better. Even though I was born here and I’m an American citizen, I grew up at a time when there weren’t many Asians where I was living (Hartford, Connecticut). People tell me I have an uncanny ability to go to a new place and really listen or hear and understand what that place is about.
